We were up early this morning to get ready to depart Dallas, Texas. We had an incredible time. We have a long day of travel in route to Wiley College in Marshall, Texas.

Breakfast in Dallas

Wiley College was founded in 1873.  Wiley focuses on developing "critical thinkers."  Wiles is a four-year, privately-supported, historically black university located on the west side of Marshall, Texas. Wiley College holds distinction as one of the oldest historically black colleges west of the Mississippi River.

The school is named in honor of Bishop Isaac T. Wiley, an outstanding minister, medical missionary and educator, Wiley College opened its doors just south of Marshall with two frame buildings and an overwhelming desire to succeed in a climate fraught with racism and Jim Crow laws.  So entrenched was their desire to succeed that in 1880, rather than moving Wiley College farther out of town, the founders of the College moved nearer to Marshall on 70+ acres of wooded land where the College stands today.

We were met by two amazing tour guides.  The Tour Guides were Danielle Daniels and Jordan Stravel.  The students did an excellent job of sharing a piece of the great history of Wiley College.  They also were able to provide some personal perspective on the culture and expectations at Wiley.

Our first stop was near the library where we learned how the money for the buildings was donated.

Dogan Hall is the secondary dorm used for students.

Home used during the movie,"The Great Debators."

The president's house was built in 1909 and is located in the middle of campus.  The house had been reinovated several times.

Campus radio station has several music studios & egineering booths. It's connected to the student hall which is being rebuilt.

H.B Pemberton hall was named after one of the first graduates to attend wiley college.
